New Clark airport passenger terminal turned over to private operator

CLARK FREEPORT –– The Lipad Corp. has accepted this Friday the new passenger terminal built by the joint venture GMR-Megawide at the Clark International Airport here.

The terminal, designed to serve eight million passengers, would be operational in July this year, Lipad Corp. chief executive officer Bi Yong Chungunco announced in a simple hand-over rite.

She described the new terminal as a “majestic structure” that reflected the Zambales mountain range where Mt Pinatubo lies. The terminal project was awarded in 2017 and began construction in August 2018.

Chungunco said the old terminal would be converted into a “mass vaccination facility for 10,000 people a day.”

Lipad Corp. served four million passengers through 700 flights of 20 airlines in 2019, she said until the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the aviation sector, she said. INQ
